Learning and Mindset Through Singing

Welcome to week 3 of our Summer Learning & Mindset Sprint! Last week, we shared some tips and tricks for learning and mindset through movement. This week, we’ll cover mindset work through singing. Doing mindset work is important for all ages because it contributes to our well-being. When small children do mindset work, it can also contribute to them feeling less stressed while homeschooling or even while learning a new language. 

歡迎來到「夏日學習與心態」系列的第三週!上星期我們討論了怎樣透過身體活動幫助學習和心態的修養。這星期我們來談談唱歌對心態帶來的正面影響。無論是任何年齡的人,心態修養都能為我們帶來益處。而當年幼的孩子做心態修養的活動時,他們內在的壓力都會減輕,讓各種學習變得更輕鬆。

Here are some tips on doing mindset work through singing. 

以下是怎樣利用歌唱做心態修養的一些方法。

Listen to the entire song
完整地聽一首歌

Ensure that your child listens to the entire song, really focusing on the lyrics and how they make them feel. Ask your child questions like, “How does the singer’s voice make you feel?” “What do the lyrics mean to you?” Identifying a connection to a song is a great way to become more self-aware and aware of how various words make us feel. 

要求孩子把整一首歌聽全,一面聽一面要特別留意歌詞和他們對歌詞的感受。問孩子:「這位歌手的聲音能讓你有甚麼感覺?」「這首歌詞對你有特別的意思嗎?」這類在自我和歌曲之間的連繫能提高孩子的自我意識,能讓他更體會到不同的字詞能怎樣影響我們的感受。

Sing along! 和唱!

Pick up an instrument if you’re feeling inspired by the notes in the song—or just sing without one if your voice feels right for the tune. As you sing, pay attention to how your body feels—is it tired? Happy? Excited? Tense? Relaxed? Do these feelings change as the song goes along? Try singing along with different parts of the song (like when someone else joins in) and see how that affects how you feel at different points in time. This is a fun activity for your child to be creative while doing mindset work. 

拿起你的樂器任由歌曲帶給你靈感,一起伴奏吧。要是你覺得清唱更爽,也可以喔。當你歌唱的時候,留意你身體的各種感覺:是疲倦?快樂?振奮?鬆弛?這些感覺會隨着一首歌的流動而變化嗎?可以嘗試從一首歌的不同部分開始合唱 (就像有人在中途插進來合唱一樣),留意一下在歌曲不同部分合唱會給你帶來怎樣不同的感受。對孩子來說,這不單新鮮好玩,還能在修養心態的同時發揮創意呢。

Singing is one of the most powerful tools for developing a positive mindset because it forces you to be in the moment. When you sing, you have to focus on breathing, pitch and rhythm, which can help you break out of negative thought patterns and bring you into a more positive state of mind.

歌唱對正面的心態修養來說具有最大的影響力,因為你必須要活在當刻。當你一邊唱歌,你必須同時調整你的呼吸、留意你的音調和節奏,於是就能將你從灰暗的負面思維拉出來,幫助你進入一個積極的思想狀態。
