A race against time

Have you heard of Louis Braille or Nadia Comaneci?

Blind due to an early childhood accident, Braille developed the system of reading and writing for the visually impaired known as braille by the tender age of 15. He further grew to earn a full professorship and become an accomplished musician in adulthood.

Comaneci holds the record as the youngest person (age 14) to achieve a perfect ten in the Olympics. She continued to excel and earn more Olympic medals. As an adult, she holds leadership roles within the gymnastics community.

A race against time

Life is a race against time.

The age of 0-6 is the “window of opportunity” when your child learns and develops at an extraordinary rate. An effective teaching method will help maximise their potential.

As every parent knows, children grow too fast. Before you know it, the sweet-smelling newborn you carried home from the hospital is an active, social teenager.

Life is a race against time. And, if we want our children to win, we must use the fleeting minutes wisely. Setting kids up to succeed begins young. From the moment they enter the world, children prove eager to learn. They want to know what objects feel like, what foods taste like, and how the world responds when they interact with it. These early years are perfect for training children to win.

What is the key? How do we prepare our children in the race against time to succeed?

The simplicity of the answer might surprise you.

Read to them. Teach them to read.

Benefits of Reading

Studies show that reading to children at young ages prepares them for success in school which brings success later in life. In other words, reading is one efficient and effective method of preparing our children to succeed. Just a few minutes a day for a lifetime of impact.

Research also shows a child’s reading ability to be the best predictor of educational achievement and life success. A child’s reading level at seven-years-old determines (with other factors) whether he or she grows to get a high-income job.

This fundamental skill of reading…

  • Develops language skills
  • Exercises a child’s brain
  • Boosts concentration
  • Teaches about the world
  • Promotes creativity and imagination
  • Builds empathy
  • Encourages their love of learning

Read in the first language is important. Read in a second language, especially one that a parent speaks, is an added bonus. In his/her race against time, your child needs a set of material that can help him to read independently in the shortest time possible.
