We hope you have been finding these Chinese learning activities and tips helpful and fun. We certainly have been enjoying your pictures and feedback in our Sagebooks HK Parent Support Facebook Group. If you haven’t checked us out there yet, please take a quick second to join!

The difficulty level of the Chinese learning activities we feature often can be adjusted depending on the age and abilities of your child. The point is to make it just hard enough that your child finds it challenging, but not so hard your child doesn’t want to play.

ALTERNATIVE WAYS TO PLAY 玩法變化

Multiplayer version: You can ask the group of children which character is missing and they can shout it out, with a possible winner being whoever is fastest. Or there doesn’t have to be a winner. Or you can have the children take turns.

If the children are older, you can add more cards to the mix, and/or remove more cards, and/or add small toys/animals to the mix, too. This adds a level of complexity because they are no longer just recalling characters, but other items as well.

ACTIVITIY 2 - What Order?
(age 3+, single/multiple player)
HOW TO PLAY 玩法
  1. Place 3 cards face up in front of your child.
  2. Go over each card and say it out loud at least once or twice.
  3. Cover the characters with a small blanket.
  4. Ask your child to tell you the characters in the right order.
ALTERNATIVE WAYS TO PLAY 玩法變化

Multiplayer version: You can either have the children take turns or have the kids try to be first.

If your child is too young to be able to order the cards, just have them recall which characters were there. If your child is older, you can ask them for a specific card (eg: 1st card, 2nd card, 3rd card, the card on the most left, etc.). You can also add more cards and even small toys to the mix.

HOMESCHOOLING TIPS

Keep your child’s age and developmental stage in mind.

Sometimes, what you want them to do is simply not appropriate for their age or developmental state. Instead of hitting your head against a wall trying to get them to do something they’re not ready for, just wait. Once they hit the right time for them, they’ll get it.
