刻舟求劍 Fossilised

《童心童真》漫畫小故事,是孩子能自己讀、自己笑的溫情故事。

用自己學會認讀的字,慢慢學習獨立閱讀,同時吸收各種百科常識:經典、歷史、天文、科學…… 識字和閱讀,是終身學習的工具。

從簡短的故事開始,慢慢就能養成閱讀的習慣和專注力。

爸爸和媽媽也一起來,讀一讀、笑一笑、談一談… 感受親子的樂趣,讓美好時光,永留在孩子的印象之中。

Start to read independently with these short comic stories, all written in characters that the child has learnt from Basic Chinese 500 course. The stories in this series include history, classic, language learning, science, humour, and more.

Each story comes with some background information. It would be a great opportunity for parents to engage children in related discussions.

  • 一直保留着舊的通訊錄,沒有更新它,因此無法與朋友保持聯系了;
  • 因為偏見而拒絕嘗試新的食品和菜肴,就會錯過了新的美食和文化體驗;
  • 要是不考慮到天氣的變化,一味要繼續原有的旅遊計劃,就會導致旅行受到影響;
  • 一家公司如果拒絕採用新技術,就會落後於競爭對手,甚至導致業務衰退。

「 刻舟求劍 」在小朋友的情況,也許:

  • 因為喜歡一件玩具而一直堅持只玩它,慢慢地玩具變得過時了,也不再適合他們的年齡段了,這就有點「刻舟求劍」了;
  • 如果小朋友因為在過去的比賽中獲得了勝利而一直沉迷過去的成就,不願意再去參加新的比賽或挑戰,那就是「 刻舟求劍 」,會失去新的學習機會哦~

刻舟求劍 /kè zhōu qiú jiàn/ is literally translated as “carve the sailing boat to seek the fallen sword”.

First, let your child read the comic story below and ask them, “can they find the sword?”

Their answer reflects the maturity of their brain development. Children under 4 years old might think “they can find it for sure”.

Of course, the position of a moving boat or any other vehicle changes every second. The marking cannot reflect the actual position of the lost sword.

This idiom means that in the ever-changing environment, if we stick to the same method or mentality and refuse to adapt, it would be problematic.

This idiom can be applied to the following examples:

  • If you keep a contact list but never update it, then you might not be able to keep in touch with some of your friends.
  • If you refuse to try new food or dishes because of some prejudice, then you’ll miss out new culinary and cultural experiences.
  • If you disregard the change of weather and insist on the original travel plan, your trip might be ruined.
  • If a company does not adapt and use new technology, it will lose its competitiveness and even business.

Here are some further examples that are relatable to children:

  • If a child is obsessed with a toy and refuses to move on to other toys, it would eventually become obsolete and no longer be age appropriate to them.
  • If a child, once won a competition, delves in the past success and refuses to take up new challenges, they would lose opportunity to learn new things.
