Which came first, the chicken or the egg?
What was your child’s first response to this question? If chicken came first, where did it come from? If egg came first, who laid that chicken egg? This question is known as a “causality dilemma”, as you cannot get a proper answer. This could be the first time that your child has been confronted with the fact that not everything in this world has a definitive answer.
What is your child’s knowledge about eggs? Which animals come from eggs? Chicken, birds, tortoise, fish, dinosaurs… Did they realise that mammals, including humans, came from eggs too? Only that they are kept safer in their mummies’ tummy.
Egg in Chinese is 蛋. In Chinese, not all 蛋 are edible. Check out the lists below: how many of the words does your child know?
The natural, edible eggs:
The processed, edible eggs:
The inedible ones:
The totally inedible ones (these are curse words 😂😂 )
